8 Brindabella Circuit
8 Brindabella Circuit was the first building in Australia to have achieved a 5 Green Star "Australian Excellence" rating, raising the benchmark for ecologically sustainable design and environmental performance of commercial buildings in Australia. As Australia's leading environmentally sustainable commercial building (of its time), the building incorporated features such as:
- Over 45% reduction in CO2 emissions and energy consumption. This building is modelled to exceed the highest level of 5 stars under the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating;
- 50% reduction in potable water usage;
- 100% of water used for irrigation is recycled or non-potable groundwater;
- Over 80% of waste by weight in construction is reused or recycled;
- Over 90% recycled steel content;
- 30% recycled concrete content;
- 100% recycled timber content;
- 100% outside air ventilation rates;
- Progressive elimination of PVC (Polyvinyl chloride), to be largely replaced with High Density Polyethylene (HDPE);
- Use of low or non Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in all indoor materials;
- Use of active chilled-beam technology and in-slab hydronic heating and cooling;
- Digital frequency lighting ballasts for energy savings and reduced light flicker;
- Modelled internal noise levels to ensure minimal noise intrusions; and
- Solar hot water heating and solar powered control systems.
